Tax subsidies for foreign workers are terrible, and some form of protectionism needs to be put in place that puts American workers first. IBM is a company without a conscience when it comes to the race towards the bottom line.

I don't really know how to address the problem of what Hitler ruthlessly termed "useless eaters." More and more people will be made obsolescent by technology. We can only hope to find other avenues for their industry, so they don't develop into a permanent and restive welfare class. In India, they applied massive numbers of people to infrastructure tasks like building roads. They could have just used a bulldozer and a steamroller and other heavy machinery, but they opted not to. At least this way, they could employ people for pennies a day. It beats idleness, I suppose.

Dishwashers and laundry machines probably put a lot of people out of business too. ;)
